Statuario Marble Slabs: Selected on the Scan, Planned Before the Cut

Statuario marble slabs are bought on the block, not the brochure: every candidate slab is scanned at ≥300 dpi, vein layouts are approved before cutting, and reserved lots keep phased programs matching from first fix to final unit.

Statuario marble slab with bright white ground and bold grey veining

The buyer's pain point and our technical solution

Statuario marble slabs sit at the top of the Italian white-marble range: a bright white ground with decisive grey veining that specifiers reserve for lobbies, islands and feature walls. Buyers sourcing Statuario usually arrive with a real problem the stone's popularity creates — quotes arrive for stone sold under the Statuario name with no slab-level proof of what will actually ship, and by the time the difference shows, the project is already committed.

Three supply risks define a Statuario program. First, provenance: blocks differ widely, and a name on a packing list is not documentation. Second, yield: book-matching and waterfall layouts consume more slab area than buyers expect, and the shortfall surfaces after cutting. Third, continuity: phased programs install stone months apart, and unreserved lots will not match.

How the program is documented instead of promised

  • Every candidate slab is scanned at ≥300 dpi on our StoneGPS platform, so selection happens on the real block — ground tone, vein position and usable yield are read before commitment.
  • Selected slabs are reserved against the order, and vein layout (book-match pairs, running vein or free match) is approved on the scan before a single cut.
  • Cut-to-size panels are pre-sorted to their elevations, and consolidated containers carry scan references in the packing plan.

Where the request goes beyond what current stock scans support — unusual panel heights, tight vein-matching across long runs — we say so at quotation stage instead of absorbing it as a site surprise. Buyers confirm feasibility with our team on the actual scans before cutting is scheduled.

Documented project cases

  1. Elevator-lobby wall cladding cut to size from scanned Statuario slabs

    Client / commission
    Hotel interior contractor, Macau project
    Stone used
Statuario Venato marble slabs cut into wall cladding panels for hotel elevator lobbies
    What it solved
The lobby design called for continuous grey veining across panel joints, but Statuario slabs vary block by block and the vein line cannot be matched after cutting
    Before
An earlier quote from a general trader priced the stone without slab-level documentation, leaving the vein layout to chance on site
    Now
Vein layout was planned on ≥300 dpi slab scans before cutting; panels arrived pre-sorted by elevation so the lobby walls read as one continuous vein family
    Where the data comes from
Company order records and panel shop drawings
  2. Waterfall island cut from a single Statuario block selection

    Client / commission
    Premium kitchen studio, Australia
    Stone used
Statuario marble slab selected for a waterfall island with mitered edges
    What it solved
The studio needed one slab large enough for the island top and both waterfall returns, with veining that flows over the miters without visual breaks
    Before
Two earlier candidate slabs from local stock fell short on one return panel after dry-lay review
    Now
A single block was selected by scan, the miter layout was approved on the scan before cutting, and the island was fabricated from one slab with matched returns
    Where the data comes from
Company order records and template correspondence
  3. Penthouse program: vanities and wall banding from one vein family

    Client / commission
Interior contractor, penthouse program, Hong Kong
    Stone used
Statuario marble slabs allocated across vanity tops, splashbacks and wall banding for penthouse units
    What it solved
Phased fit-out of penthouse units required later phases to match the stone installed in phase one, months apart
    Before
Stone bought per phase from open market lots would have read as different whites across units
    Now
Slabs from one vein family were reserved at selection and released per phase, so unit interiors stayed consistent through the program
    Where the data comes from
Project order file and contractor acceptance notes

Client reviews and ratings

Client reviews on file for Statuario slab programs (star ratings drawn from our order records and follow-up notes):

  • ★★★★★

Hotel interior contractor, Macau project: "The lobby walls read as one continuous vein, and that was decided on the scans, not on site." Verifiable result: elevator-lobby cladding panels installed from pre-sorted scanned slabs with no site rejection (source: contractor acceptance notes).

  • ★★★★☆

Premium kitchen studio, Australia: "The waterfall actually flowed — the miter approval on the scan saved us a re-cut." Verifiable result: island fabricated from one selected slab with returns matched, template approved before cutting (source: studio correspondence).

  • ★★★★★

Interior contractor, penthouse program, Hong Kong: "Phase three still sits next to phase one and you cannot tell which came first." Verifiable result: later phases matched to the first vein family under the reserved-lot plan (source: repeat-order file).

Certificates and compliance records

  • ISO-aligned documented process controls

Slab scanning, cutting, edge fabrication and pre-shipment inspection for Statuario slab programs run under our documented ISO-aligned process controls; test documents are provided with quotations on request.

Company strength

Apexstone Amoy Marble and Granite, founded in 2002, exports to 42 countries from Xiamen, China. Statuario and other Italian white marbles are bought through our Shuitou hub with direct sourcing through our quarry network across Italy, Turkey, Iran, Spain, Portugal and China under ISO-aligned documented process controls.

Selection runs on our StoneGPS.cn platform, developed over three years, which archives ≥300 dpi scans of every slab we document — the basis for vein planning, book-match pairing and reserved-lot continuity on Statuario programs. Our StoneBooks reference collection, commissioned by Harvest Asia Pacific (Hongkong), documents natural stone families for client-facing specification work.

Orders are documented slab by slab: scan references, reserved-lot status and consolidated-container packing plans are issued with order confirmations, so buyers can verify what was selected before it ships.

Procurement FAQ

How is Statuario different from Carrara and Calacatta?
All three are Italian white marbles, but they sit at different points of rarity and contrast. Statuario carries a bright white ground with bolder grey veining than Carrara, and is generally less heavily figured than Calacatta. Because blocks differ, we document every slab by scan rather than by name alone, and selection happens on the actual slabs before cutting.
Can I select the exact slabs for my project?
Yes — slab selection is the core of the program. You receive ≥300 dpi scans of candidate slabs, confirm your picks, and those slabs are reserved against your order. Vein layout and cutting are then planned on the scans you approved.
How does book-match planning work for walls and islands?
Adjacent panels are mirrored from the same slab so the veining reads as a continuous motif across joints. We confirm the panel grid and miter positions on the scan before cutting, because book-matching consumes more slab area than a running-vein layout and the yield must be checked first.
What is the minimum order for a Statuario slab program?
Programs range from single-slab island projects to full container consolidations. The practical minimum is the slab quantity your layout consumes plus cutting allowance; send the elevations and we will confirm what one selection covers. Quantities and current availability are confirmed per inquiry.
What maintenance does Statuario marble need after installation?
Statuario is a calcite marble: it seals like other marbles and etches under acids. We ship the sealing specification with the order documents and recommend the maintenance routine be agreed with your installer during specification, not after installation.
What is your sample policy?
Samples can be arranged before a program is confirmed. A USD 200 sample fee applies per sample order, and custom sampling and pre-production mock-ups are free of charge for batch production orders. Send the specification and we confirm the sample plan together with current availability.
