White Travertine Tiles: Declared Hole Treatment and ±0.5 mm Calibration
Travertine is a porous stone, and unspecified hole treatment plus loose thickness tolerances turn routine tile orders into site disputes. We declare the finish and calibrate every tile to ±0.5 mm so the floor that installs is the floor you specified.

The buyer's pain point and our technical solution
A white travertine tile order fails for reasons that have nothing to do with taste. Travertine is porous: its natural holes, combined with loose thickness tolerances from commodity suppliers, turn routine tile orders into site disputes. Two things go wrong when a supplier treats it like any other beige tile — hole treatment is not specified, so filled and unfilled tiles arrive mixed and the finished floor shows inconsistent texture under light; and thickness drifts, so installers fight lippage across the whole floor and blame the stone instead of the tolerance.
What this costs the buyer
A floor laid with mismatched hole treatment cannot be fixed with grout — the surface reads differently panel to panel, and the client sees it the moment sunlight rakes across the room. Lippage is one of the most common grounds for rejecting a stone floor at handover. Both defects are visible, expensive to remediate, and entirely preventable at the factory stage.
Our solution: named finishes and written tolerances
- Four named finishes, one decision per project: filled honed, filled polished, unfilled brushed and unfilled tumbled. The treatment is written into the order, so the floor that installs is the floor that was specified — not a pallet-level lottery.
- Machine calibration to ±0.5 mm: thickness stays within ±0.5 mm across the order, so large-format tiles lay flat without shimming and fixing crews cover more area per day.
- Formats that match the program: standard 600 x 600 mm (about 24 x 24 in) and 800 x 800 mm (about 31.5 x 31.5 in), custom sizes to drawing, thickness from 10 mm (walls) to 20 mm (high-traffic floors) — about 0.4 to 0.8 in.
- Documented technical profile: density 2.3–2.7 g/cm³, water absorption 1–3%, Mohs 4–5, compressive strength 60–120 MPa — real figures for specifiers, not catalogue guesses.
- Programme scale: MOQ from 50 m² (about 540 sq ft), lead time 25–35 days from drawing approval, mixed-stone containers via Xiamen Port.
Value for the buyer
Hole treatment and calibration convert the two most common travertine disputes into checkable line items, installation gets faster, and wastage on site stays within the margin you quoted.

- Classico Roma travertine floor tiles, filled honed, 600 x 600 mm
- What it solved
- Loose thickness tolerance from a previous supplier caused lippage disputes at handover
- Before
- Installers shimming tiles across the floor and one floor rejected at handover
- Now
- Order machine-calibrated to ±0.5 mm with hole treatment declared as filled honed; laid flat without shimming and accepted at handover

Hotel lobby feature walls
- Client / commission
- Hotel fit-out contractor, Middle East
- Stone used
- Filled polished travertine wall panels, book-matched
- What it solved
- Lobby walls needed calm, even surfaces under raking light with vein direction controlled
- Before
- Mixed hole treatment made panels read differently under the lighting design
- Now
- Filled polished finish declared in the order and vein direction confirmed on slab images before cutting; panels read as one surface

Client reviews and ratings
Client reviews on file for tile and interior-stone programmes (star ratings drawn from our order records and follow-up notes):
- ★★★★★
European flooring distributor: “Calibration held across the whole order and the laying crews covered more area per day. Handover passed without a lippage argument.” Verifiable result: floor accepted at first inspection (source: distributor acceptance record).
- ★★★★☆
Hotel fit-out contractor: “The declared finish and confirmed vein direction meant the lobby walls read as one surface under the lighting design.” Verifiable result: walls accepted without remediation (source: project inspection file).
- ★★★★★
Tile retailer, North America: “Filled honed samples matched the shipped containers, and customers stopped asking why tiles differed within one floor.” Verifiable result: consistent supply across repeat containers (source: order file review). Procurement FAQ
- Should I order filled or unfilled travertine tiles?
- Filled honed or filled polished surfaces close the natural pores for a smooth, even floor; unfilled brushed or tumbled surfaces keep the open pores for rustic character. Both are valid — the key is choosing one and writing it into the order, which is exactly how we supply.
- How accurate is the thickness?
- Tiles are machine-calibrated to a ±0.5 mm tolerance across the order — the tolerance installers need to lay large-format floor tiles flat with normal adhesive beds.
- Can you produce sizes other than 600 x 600 and 800 x 800 mm?
- Yes — custom sizes are produced to drawing. Send the laying plan or cut sizes and we confirm feasibility and pricing.
- Is travertine suitable for bathrooms and wet areas?
- Yes, with the finish and sealing specified for the space. Water absorption of 1–3% is typical; tell us the application and we advise which finish other buyers use in comparable spaces.
- What is the minimum order quantity?
- MOQ starts from 50 m² (about 540 sq ft), which suits residential projects, retail fit-outs and first trial containers.
