Silver Travertine Tiles: The Cool Grey, Held Lot by Lot
Silver travertine is a layer, not a label: undocumented "silver" stock drifts grey-beige between crates. This program cuts tiles from documented layers, fixes cut and finish per zone, and writes the wet-room sealing into the order.

The buyer's pain point and our technical solution
Silver travertine tiles answer a demand classic beige never can: a cool, mineral grey floor or wall that still reads as natural stone. Buyers chasing that tone usually arrive with the same problem — tiles sold as "silver" that turn out to be a grey-beige blend, because the tone lives in specific layers of the quarry and traders sell whatever the crate holds.
Three failures define this market. First, tone drift: silver is a layer property, so undocumented stock shifts between crates and the grey dissolves. Second, cut confusion: vein-cut and cross-cut read as two different stones, and the wrong one disappoints a design written around the other. Third, wet-zone shortcuts: unfilled silver looks striking in a sample and opens into pinholes under real bathroom use.
How the tone is held instead of hoped for
- Tile families are cut from documented layers — ≥300 dpi scans back the reference — so the silver you approve on the laid sample is the silver that ships, container after container.
- Cut and finish are specified together: vein-cut for the linear read, cross-cut honed and filled for interior floors and wet walls, polished reserved for walls and low-traffic formal surfaces.
- Wet zones carry a written sealing regime in the order documents, and honed-and-filled specification is the default for spa and bathroom programs.
Where the project tone sits between silver and classic, both lots are documented side by side so the blend is deliberate. Layer availability moves with the quarry — current silver quantities are confirmed per inquiry, not assumed from a sample. The related products on this page are our Travertine Romano Classico range in the classic beige tone, cut from the same travertine sourcing base; silver-tone material is confirmed at specification stage with current layer availability and scan references.
Documented project cases
Silver-tone lobby floor for a boutique office
- Client / commission
- Commercial interior contractor, Northern Europe
- Stone used
- Silver travertine tiles, honed and filled, cut in 12x24 in (about 30x61 cm) modules for an office lobby floor
- What it solved
- The design brief called for a cool grey floor, but grey travertine offered by general traders arrived as a mixed grey-beige blend with no layer documentation
- Before
- Two sample crates from different suppliers showed visibly different greys under the same lighting
- Now
- Tiles were selected from documented silver-tone layers by scan; the laid sample was approved, and the floor read one consistent cool grey across the lobby
- Where the data comes from
- Project order file and contractor acceptance records
Hotel spa and wet-room program in honed silver
- Client / commission
- Wellness construction contractor, Alpine resort market
- Stone used
- Silver travertine tiles honed and filled for spa walls and wet-room surfaces
- What it solved
- Wet-room specification demanded a filled, honed surface with written sealing guidance, and the silver tone had to hold across walls, benches and niches
- Before
- An earlier supplier's unfilled silver stock showed pinholes that opened under wet use
- Now
- Filled and honed tiles were supplied with the sealing regime written into the order documents, and the program passed the venue's pre-opening inspection
- Where the data comes from
- Company order records and contractor correspondence
Showroom floor display across silver and classic lots
- Client / commission
- Tile showroom, North America
- Stone used
- Silver and classic-tone travertine tile displays for a showroom floor, sourced as two documented lots
- What it solved
- The showroom wanted side-by-side silver and classic displays, but sampling from mixed stock made the two tones look like the same stone
- Before
- Blended lots blurred the tone difference the display was meant to demonstrate
- Now
- Two documented lots — one silver, one classic — were supplied with scan references, and the displays now show a clear tone story to walk-in buyers
- Where the data comes from
- Company order records and showroom correspondence

Company strength
Apexstone Amoy Marble and Granite, founded in 2002, exports to 42 countries from Xiamen, China. Travertine tile programs run through our interior stone lines with direct sourcing through our quarry network across Italy, Turkey, Iran, Spain, Portugal and China under ISO-aligned documented process controls — our Travertine Romano Classico range is bought from Italy within that sourcing base.
Tile programs are built on lot discipline: ≥300 dpi slab scans document the layer each tile family is cut from, calibrated thicknesses and hole treatment are confirmed per specification, and mixed-module containers are packed to a written plan. The Slabs & Tiles selling points our order files commit to — colour variation control, yield optimization and third-party inspection on request — apply to travertine programs from showroom scale to full containers.
R&D includes the StoneGPS.cn platform, developed over three years, and the StoneBooks reference collection commissioned by Harvest Asia Pacific (Hongkong), which documents stone families including travertine for client-facing specification work.

Procurement FAQ
- What makes silver travertine different from classic travertine?
- Silver travertine is cut from naturally greyer layers of the stone. The tone is a layer property, not a surface treatment — which is why it is documented by scan and why availability moves with quarry layers. Classic beige is the more abundant read; silver is the cooler, scarcer one.
- Which sizes do silver travertine tiles come in?
- Standard interior modules run from 4x4 in (about 10x10 cm) up to 24x24 in (about 61x61 cm), including 12x24 in (about 30x61 cm) and 18x18 in (about 46x46 cm). Module availability in silver tones is confirmed per inquiry, because layer yield controls which sizes can be cut consistently.
- Should I choose filled or unfilled for a bathroom?
- Wet zones should be honed and filled: filling closes the natural pores so water and cleaning products stay on the surface. Unfilled textures are a deliberate design read for dry feature walls. The sealing regime is written into the order documents either way.
- Can silver and classic tones be mixed in one program?
- Yes, deliberately: the two tones read as a matched family when both come from documented lots. What fails is mixing undocumented stock — the greys and beiges drift and the floor loses the story. Programs that mix tones are planned lot by lot with scan references.
- How is silver travertine maintained after installation?
- Travertine is a calcite stone: it seals like marble and etches under acids. Honed and filled surfaces take a standard penetrating sealer, and the maintenance routine is specified with the order documents. Confirm the routine with your installer during specification, not after installation.
- What is your sample policy?
- Samples can be arranged before a program is confirmed. A USD 200 sample fee applies per sample order, and custom sampling and pre-production mock-ups are free of charge for batch production orders. Send the specification and we confirm the sample plan together with current availability.
Request silver travertine layer scans and a tone-matched program
Send the zones, the tone you are matching (silver, classic or ivory) and the module sizes. We reply with scan-referenced layer candidates, a filled/honed specification and the sealing regime per zone before cutting.
