Blue Emerald: The Stone That Glows from Within
From feature walls and fireplace surrounds to statement tabletops and vanity surfaces - discover how Blue Emerald's dazzling blue iridescence on a deep black base creates a living, shifting surface that few natural stones can match.
Design Inspiration
The Stone That Changes as You Walk Past It
There is a reason the Chinese named this stone 蓝翡翠 - blue jade. Blue Emerald does something most natural stones cannot: it appears to glow from within. The deep interlaced black base carries flashes of vivid blue that shift and move as light strikes the crystal planes. Walk past a Blue Emerald feature wall and the surface transforms - deep black from one angle, blazing blue from another. This optical effect is produced as light strikes the stone's feldspar crystal planes - the same iridescence that gives labradorite its name - and it is the reason this stone has become the defining statement material in luxury interiors.
Apexstone sources Blue Emerald blocks directly from Madagascar quarries, inspects each block for iridescence intensity and base consistency, and fabricates panels, tabletops, and vanity surfaces in our Xiamen facility. Slab sizes up to 3000x1800 mm (118x71 inch). Polished finishes maximise the blue flash; honed finishes create a softer, more muted effect. Whether you are specifying a single feature wall or a full-home programme, our facility delivers batch-consistent stone; quantities, pricing and lead times are confirmed by project quotation.

Design Notes
Four Decisions That Separate a Blue Emerald Interior from a Generic Dark Stone Wall
Read the Iridescence Direction Before You Cut
Blue Emerald's blue flash has a direction - the iridescence is strongest when light strikes the crystal planes at a specific angle. Before cutting panels, Apexstone maps the iridescence direction on each slab and numbers the panels so the installer can orient them consistently. For a feature wall, this means the blue flash reads as a single, coordinated composition across the entire surface. For floor-to-ceiling panels, the flash direction should be consistent from panel to panel so the wall appears to glow as one piece rather than a patchwork of differently-flashing stones.
Polished vs Honed: Two Different Moods from the Same Slab
The same Blue Emerald slab looks like a different stone depending on the finish. Polished: the surface becomes a mirror. The blue flash intensifies, the deep black base deepens, and the stone reflects surrounding colours into the room. Use polished for feature walls, fireplace surrounds, and statement tabletops where visual impact is the goal. Honed: the surface becomes matte. The blue flash softens to a subtle sheen, the black base reads as a calm, grounding surface, and the stone feels more tactile. Use honed for surfaces where a quieter, more refined effect is desired. A common mistake: using polished Blue Emerald in a room with harsh overhead lighting, which can create glare that washes out the blue flash.
Pair Blue Emerald with Warm Metals and Soft Textiles
Blue Emerald's deep black base with blue flash is a cool-toned stone, but it pairs beautifully with warm materials when used as accents. Brushed brass, antiqued bronze, and gold fixtures create a jewel-box contrast against the blue-flashing black surface. Soft textiles - linen, wool, velvet in cream, taupe, and warm grey - soften the dramatic stone and prevent the space from feeling cold. Avoid pairing Blue Emerald with other cool blue or grey stones in the same room; the blue flash will clash with the blue-grey undertones. Instead, let Blue Emerald be the single statement surface and keep surrounding materials warm and neutral.
Budget for Iridescence-Matched Slabs
Not all Blue Emerald slabs flash equally. Premium-grade slabs have intense, evenly distributed blue flashes across the full surface; commercial-grade slabs have moderate iridescence with some variation. For a feature wall or statement tabletop, always specify premium-grade slabs and request iridescence-matched pairs from the same block. This adds to the slab cost but transforms the visual result. For secondary surfaces (vanity tops, smaller panels), commercial-grade is acceptable and more economical. Apexstone provides a slab allocation plan mapping each product to specific slab areas, ensuring the most visible surfaces get the best iridescence.
Applications
Where Blue Emerald Belongs in Luxury Interiors

Kitchen Countertop & Island
A Blue Emerald kitchen countertop or island brings the dazzling blue iridescence to the heart of the home. The deep black base with blue flash creates a statement surface that complements both modern and classical kitchens. The stone is hard and dense, making it well suited to kitchen surfaces when properly sealed. Specify sink and cooktop cutouts, edge profiles, and support in the shop drawing.

Bathroom Vanity Countertops
For bathrooms, a Blue Emerald vanity countertop creates a spa-like retreat with a dramatic edge. The deep black base with blue flash harmonizes with chrome and brushed nickel fixtures. Honed finishes are recommended for wet-area applications.

Bathroom Vanity Design
A Blue Emerald bathroom vanity design turns a functional fixture into a sculptural statement. The deep black base with blue iridescence catches and diffuses bathroom lighting, creating a luminous focal point. Available with single or double bowl cutouts and faucet drilling.

Fireplace Surrounds & Media Walls
A Blue Emerald fireplace surround or media wall turns the room's natural gathering point into a statement. The deep black base with blue flash reads as sculpture even when the fireplace is unlit, and the iridescence comes alive under accent lighting in the evening. Panels are cut to CAD dimensions and sequenced so the flash direction stays consistent across the full composition.

Our Process
From Madagascar Quarry to Statement Wall
Every Blue Emerald interior project follows a controlled process - from block selection at the Madagascar quarry to iridescence mapping, CNC cutting, and global shipping. Our team manages every step to ensure the finished panels meet your design vision.
- ✓
Block Selection & Iridescence Mapping
Blue Emerald blocks are inspected at the Madagascar quarry for iridescence intensity, base consistency, and structural soundness. Blocks destined for feature wall programmes are flagged so consecutive slabs can be cut and sequenced for consistent flash direction.
- ✓
Gang-Saw Cutting
Blocks are mounted on the gang-saw and sliced into full-size slabs at 18-20 mm (3/4 inch) reference thickness. Chilled water and steel-shot abrasive produce a clean, flat surface ready for finishing.
- ✓
Surface Finishing
Slabs pass through polishing or honing lines depending on the specified finish. Polishing uses progressively finer diamond abrasives to achieve a high-gloss surface that maximises the blue flash; honing stops at a finer grit for a matte finish.
- ✓
CNC Cutting & Edge Profiling
For feature wall panels, slabs are cut on CNC bridge saws to exact CAD dimensions. Edge profiles - eased, beveled, chamfered - are milled on CNC routers. Panels are numbered and sequenced for installation.
- ✓
Sealing & Quality Control
Finished panels are sealed with penetrating stone sealer. Each panel is inspected for iridescence direction, colour match, edge finish, and dimensional accuracy before packing. Installation drawings and panel sequence diagrams are prepared.
