The Pain Point: One Wrong Cutout Turns a Premium Marble Benchtop into Scrap
A marble benchtop is never an off-the-shelf product. Every kitchen benchtop and vanity benchtop is cut to exact dimensions around your cabinetry, your sink, your cooktop, and your tapware — which means every order is a made-to-measure fabrication job, and the most expensive failure in benchtop procurement is not price. It is a cutout error.
The scenario is familiar to any importer or contractor: the sink template on the production drawing was offset by 10 mm, the faucet hole landed 30 mm from where the tapware actually sits, or the cooktop opening came through 5 mm oversize. None of these errors are visible in the crate. They appear on installation day, when the fabricator on site tries to drop the benchtop onto the cabinet and discovers the bowl does not align — after your client has already paid for the stone, and after your cabinetmaker has already installed the base units.
And unlike a laminate or engineered top, a natural marble slab cannot give the material back. A misplaced cutout in a marble benchtop cannot be patched, filled, or re-cut larger without destroying the very veining that made the client choose Aqua Grey in the first place.
What the Error Actually Costs You
A scrapped slab, not a rework
Marble cannot be welded or filled back. A benchtop with a wrong sink or cooktop cutout is usually total loss — material, fabrication, and freight all written off.
A replacement that drags the schedule
A replacement top means a new fabrication cycle on top of shipping time. In practice this is measured in weeks, while cabinets sit delivered and the installer stands idle.
Batch mismatch on the re-cut
Aqua Grey's fluid, water-like veining varies block to block. A replacement cut from a different slab batch rarely matches the tone and vein direction of the first delivery.
Confidence damage with your client
On a multi-unit residential or hospitality fit-out, one visible benchtop failure at handover costs more goodwill than the stone itself ever cost.
The root cause is almost never the cutting machine — it is the handoff. Errors happen between the shop drawing you approved and the dimensions the saw operator actually receives. If production starts from a screenshot, a verbal size, or an unverified sketch, every downstream step inherits the mistake.
Our Solution: Production Starts Only From an Approved CAD Drawing
Apexstone fabricates Aqua Grey marble benchtops with a simple rule: nothing is cut until the production drawing is agreed. Benchtop dimensions, sink and cookout positions, faucet hole spacing, edge profiles, and finishes are converted into a CAD production drawing first, and cutting is matched to that approved document — not to an email thread.
Here is how each Aqua Grey benchtop order moves through our controlled fabrication process:
- Drawing review and CAD conversion. You send benchtop dimensions, quantities, cutout positions, edge profiles, and finish requirements. We convert them into a production drawing, checking every sink bowl, faucet hole, and cooktop opening against the layout before anything is scheduled onto a machine.
- Slab selection and vein planning. Tops are planned on full-size Aqua Grey slabs so the blue-grey base and lighter vein bands flow in a consistent direction. Backsplashes are planned from the same slab as the benchtop.
- Infrared bridge saw cutting. Full-size slabs are cut into benchtop blanks at the specified dimensions on infrared bridge saws.
- CNC cutouts. Sink bowls — single or double — faucet holes, and cooktop openings are cut on CNC routers with precision tooling, following the approved drawing positions.
- Edge profiling and polishing. Edge profiles — eased, beveled, bullnose, waterfall, ogee, or custom — are milled and polished on CNC routers.
- Sealing and pre-packing inspection. Each benchtop is sealed and inspected for dimensions, cutout positions, and surface quality before packing for shipment.

Aqua Grey marble on a kitchen island — blue-grey base with lighter fluid vein bands, a cool contemporary surface for both light and dark cabinetry.

Sink cutouts are machined on CNC routers from the approved drawing positions — not measured by hand on the shop floor.

A vanity benchtop with its basin cutout in production. The same CAD-to-CNC workflow covers kitchen benchtops and bathroom vanity benchtops.

Edge profiles are polished after profiling, so the finished edge reads as one continuous surface with the top.
What This Process Is Worth to You
Tops that drop in on the first try. Because cutouts follow an approved production drawing and are machined on CNC routers, the benchtop that arrives matches the layout your cabinetmaker built to — which is the whole point of buying a fabricated marble top rather than a slab.
Backsplash vein continuity without a second supplier. Backsplashes are supplied as an integrated 100 mm (4 inch) upstand or as full-height panels, matched and cut from the same slab as the benchtop. The vein flows from the horizontal surface up the wall instead of stopping at a seam between two suppliers' material.
One stone across the whole project. The same Aqua Grey fabrication line covers kitchen benchtops, vanity benchtops, and backsplashes, so a residential or hospitality project can specify one blue-grey marble for every horizontal surface and receive consistent tone and veining across the order.
A realistic entry point for project and wholesale buyers. MOQ starts from 10 m² per order, and standard lead time is 25–35 days from drawing approval. Every order is tracked under SKU APX-AG-BT with documented drawing versions, so the drawing you approved is the drawing we cut.

Buying Questions We Hear Most
What do you need from us before production starts? Benchtop dimensions, quantities, cutout positions for sinks, cooktops, and faucets, edge profiles, and finish selection. CAD files are ideal; dimensioned sketches with clear measurements work too. The lead-time clock starts from drawing approval.
Which thickness should we specify? 18 mm (3/4 inch) and 20 mm (3/4 inch) are the standard options for kitchen and vanity benchtops; 30 mm (1-1/4 inch) suits heavier visual profiles and waterfall island edges. Specify per area in the drawing and we plan the slabs accordingly.
Honed or polished for a bathroom vanity benchtop? For wet-area benchtops we recommend a honed finish, which reduces slipperiness on the surface. Polished maximizes the depth of the blue-grey tone; brushed adds texture. All three are available.
Can the backsplash be guaranteed to match the benchtop? Yes — backsplashes are cut from the same slab as the benchtop, either as an integrated 100 mm (4 inch) upstand or full-height to the upper cabinetry. Vein continuity is planned at the slab layout stage, before cutting.
Is there a minimum order for project buyers? MOQ starts from 10 m², which accommodates single residential projects and larger wholesale programs alike.
